What is the National Disability Insurance Scheme?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the Government’s new way of providing funding and supports to people with permanent and significant disabilities across Australia.
The NDIS provides lifetime supports to individuals who meet the eligibility criteria. The supports are based on a plan that includes your support needs, goals and aspirations.
When fully rolled out, more than $20.4 billion will be offered to 460,000 individuals who are accepted into the scheme.
I am currently with another service provider. What will NDIS mean for me?
Increased flexibility and choice is what is encouraged under the NDIS. This means that many people can access different supports from many services. That’s why Better Caring partners with service providers who support the hiring of care workers via the Better Caring platform. We can refer you to providers who can help you identify your goals and provide you with flexible support, such as:
- Accommodation services and supports
- Sporting activities, passions and interests
- Increasing independence and community participation
- Getting a job
- Individual support at home, going out or on holidays
- Education and training opportunities
- Assistance with household management duties
- Clinical support
