Labour Day (3rd October 2016) is celebrated on the first Monday of October in NSW. If you’re caring for a client or loved one over the long weekend, make it special for them. Here are some suggestions of fun things to do in Sydney this coming long weekend:

Sydney Observatory

Visit the Sydney Observatory at Millers Point for day or night tours (tip: telescope viewing of the night sky is a special experience). There are limited areas that visitors using wheelchairs will not be able to access due to narrow and steep staircases in the heritage-listed buildings. However, an outdoor telescope can be arranged if you call in advance. Click here to book online for day or night tours.

Royal Botanical Gardens

The Royal Botanical Gardens are located in the heart of the city and is an excellent place to have a picnic! The gardens are free to enter and there are also free guided walks daily at 10:30am from the Garden Shop. Click here for information about accessible parking, entrances, paths and toilets.

Art Gallery of NSW

Located next to the Royal Botanical Gardens is one of Australia’s leading art museums, The Art Gallery of NSW. The museum is free to exhibit and open every day from 10.00am till 5.00pm. The Art Gallery of NSW is accessible, click here for more information about accessibility.

Australian National Maritime Museum

The Australian National Maritime Museum is located in Darling Harbour. Most parts of the museum are free. However, to access the ships and latest exhibitions you will need to purchase a ticket. The museum is accessible with ramps and lifts, access to the docked vessels is limited.

Barangaroo

Check out Sydney’s newest neighbourhood! Barangaroo Reserve offers a number of beautiful walking paths such as Wulugl Walk. You can also explore Barangaroo’s food and shopping district. There are tours that you can book, which provide an in-depth explanation of the Aboriginal history of Sydney Harbour and the significance of the site to Aboriginal Australians. Barangaroo is accessible, click here for more information about accessibility.

Museum of Contemporary Art

Explore the Museum of Contemporary Art at the Rocks, Sydney. The museum is free and open daily from 10.00am – 5.00pm. You can also see the contemporary art after dark every Thursday when the cafe and galleries close at 9.00pm. The museum is accessible, click here for more information about accessibility.
